Random Acts of Kindness: Why We Do It

            When Blue Planet Eyewear was first founded in 2009 by eyeglasses aficionado David Weinstein, the mission was to create a brand of wholesale sunglasses that aligned with his family’s core values of giving back to the community that raised his sons. In our small town of Carpinteria, California, everyone knows everyone and everyone is family, whether you are related by blood or not. Because of this tight-knit community, the emphasis on philanthropy was set when creating Blue Planet Eyewear.

            Fast forward to April 2018 when David’s son and VP, Matt, and daughter-in-law and CEO, Lisa, first began the Random Acts of Kindness program. The first project was just the two of them, planting trees for the Raptor Center in their local Ojai community. Between the two of them and the rest of the team at Ojai Trees, they were able to plant 30 trees in one day. From then on, the Random Acts of Kindness program took off, and we just finished our sixth project volunteering at the Humane Society in our local Ojai community helping make a better playing area for the animals.

 The reason we volunteer each month is not for the press or the pictures, or to brag about it on social media. Our community does so much for us consistently, and it's the least we can do to appreciate it by giving back. We strive to make our community a better place by taking the time out of our schedules to get our hands dirty and make a difference. Whether it's shoveling mulch at the Humane Society, or it's giving children with special needs the Best Day at the beach, we plan on helping as many people (and animals) as possible!
